Controversy Brews As Madridistas Accuse Var Of Failing To Review Gavi’s Attack On Ceballos

Gavi was the protagonist of the controversy in the classic Spanish match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the team led by Xavi Hernandez. The young midfielder for FC Barcelona committed aggression against Dani Ceballos when the game was approaching the 80th-minute mark.

Real Madrid started off strong at Camp Nou, and it appeared that the night would belong to them. However, FC Barcelona managed to turn the game around at two key moments. At the end of the first half, Sergi Roberto equalized the score, and in the 90+2 minute, Franck Kessie scored the game-winning goal.

The aggression committed by Gavi against Dani Ceballos occurred around the 80th-minute mark and was the controversial moment of the classic match. Apparently, Ceballos said something to Gavi that provoked his fury. The number 6 of FC Barcelona made contact with Ceballos and pushed him to the ground.

As this was an aggression committed without the ball, the VAR should have reviewed the action and potentially expelled the FC Barcelona player. However, no such review was made, and the action went unnoticed by the central referee.

Undoubtedly, this play could have affected the final result since at that point in the game, the score was tied at 1-1. Not only did Barcelona win the game, but they also practically secured La Liga by taking a 12-point lead over Real Madrid in the standings.

Although there are still many matches left to be played, it would be the first time in the history of La Liga that a team loses the title after holding a 12-point lead at this point in the championship.
